Observations are scheduled by appointment only. You may contact the Director, Martha Teien, at (970) 748-3128 or by email mteien@mtnmontessori.org to schedule the observation.
Observations are critical to the application process. Your family will need to take the time to come in and see the Montessori Philosophy in action! This will help you to decide if this is the right program for your family
Directions: From I-70 take the Avon Exit. Head North and take Nottingham Road off the Round About. Stay on Nottingham until the stop sign. At the stop sign take a right onto Metcalf Road. We are the second building on the left – 77 Metcalf Road. Park at the very BACK of the building. Walk down the cement path, through the gate and in the first door on your left. Immediately inside the school take a right and a quick left into the room labeled Observation Room.
Some Reminders:
- Please be timely. There are usually observations at 9am and 9:30am so there may be someone before or after you.
- Observations are 30 minutes long. If you are late, your observation is shorter.
- Observations are for parents only. Please do not bring your friend, your neighbor, your babysitter or your CHILD.
- Teachers will not interact with you at all. In the afternoon or the next morning, Martha will contact you by phone to answer questions and find out if this program is a fit for your family.
- This room is not sound proof in order that you may hear the classroom conversation. Please respect our learning environment. Turn off phones, hold all conversation until your observation is complete.
- Please keep the light in the observation room turned OFF. This will assist your viewing.
- Walking in and out of the school is a big distraction to our children. Once you are in the observation room, please remain there until your observation time has expired.
- During your observation children are working with Montessori materials and the teachers are using the Montessori Philosophy. Children may be working alone, in small groups, with a teacher or with one other child. They are free to move through the classroom at their own pace and choose their own work. The environment is very structured but the children have a lot of freedom to move and choose. Children may work with anything in the classroom as long as they have had a demonstration and they are respecting the materials. This work period lasts from 8:30am-11:30am.
